Ethnobotanical study of medicinal plant species in Nensebo District, south-eastern Ethiopia

Background: Plants are important sources of traditional medicine in many cultures. Ethiopia, being rich floral and cultural diversity, merits documentation medicinal plants associated knowledge various parts the country. To this end, an ethnobotanical study was conducted Nensebo district, southern Ethiopia. Methods: Ethnobotanical data were collected using semi-structured interviews, field guided walks, direct observation, focus group discussions market surveys from December 2018 to February 2019. Both descriptive quantitative methods used for analysis, as appropriate. analysis techniques such informant consensus factor, paired comparison, preference ranking. Results: A total 127 plant species belonging 108 genera 67 families identified documented. Medicinal mostly (60%) wild. Of recorded species, 70% reported be treat human ailments 12% livestock ailments. Herbs most frequently harvested growth form (32%). Among medicine, leaves (36%) used. The widely mode preparation medicines crushing (38%) frequent route administration orally (31%). common aliments treated area gonorrhea, diarrhea, fever, tapeworm headache, whereas blackleg, cattle coughing, equine rheumatism. There 21% that Croton macrostachyus is effective treating aliment gonorrhea also raking findings indicated preferred gonorrhea. Conclusions: Several indigenous ailments, implying local community depends on them primary health care. As a result, there need conservation area.
